We made a home,
You and I,
We made love therein,
You and I,
We made our children then,
You and I,
We made memories for them,
You and I.
We paid the mortgages off,
You and I,
We taught them all,
You and I,
We soothed their hurt knees,
You and I,
We kissed off their worries,
You and I.
We watched them grow older,
You and I,
Till they reached our shoulders,
Yours and Mine,
And then there came a time,
for You and I,
When their speech turned tar black,
Greed addled their minds.
And You and I looked dismayed,
At what we had made,
Then there came a time,
When they went away,
Nary a glance,
At the home that was made,
By You and I.
Now this skeleton,
We once called home,
For You and I,
Resounds no more,
With their exuberant cries,
For you and I,
Are diseased, deaf and blind.
And the home we made,
Is but a hollow shell,
Not a soul to speak to,
Our worries to tell,
Ready to crumble and bury,
You and I…

Melancholy and isolation where heaven was meant to be!

Yes… And that’s the way it is for every family.

It is the bitter truth of a man kind, we spend our entire livelihood in our children’s interest and what they get back from them is truly not acceptable. It is surely not happening with every parents but with most of us.
Great post and the flow of the poem was smooth.

Starting was so lovely but sadness prevails in the end…

Yes. Isn’t that how life is? Sad, morose, and ending in loneliness and strife. At least for some

Very nice…….beautiful flow……and this is how family grows and flows indeed…..I’m a bit poor in English, so in the last lines, did you mean the children whom you raised have gone their way ?

Yes, that’s what I meant… And my firend, if you have been able to express yourself in this language, and have been able to understand what I am trying to say in my poem, then you can’t be weak in English 🙂

Yeah the reason I said I’m poor in English coz I wanted to make sure if I could really understand your mind…….coz we as humans are selfish….aren’t we?…..and we expect…..but then the other way round if you look at this beautiful poem of yours, you start your life with two and don’t want to give your children the same opportunity….. And you think it’s a sad end…..what you say?

Oh yes that’s true as well l. They deserve to find their own opportunities as well. But then become bad for it. That’s what the middle of the poem says. That they turn into something vile. Something that their parents didn’t bring them up to be.

Pradita…..these are reactive things…. Nobody does it on purpose…..I’m not saying your point as invalid, but then finally things flow their way…..

Yes they do… I won’t deny that.

I’m sorry if I offended you over this………you have written it so beautifully, and you are beautiful too with your posing style….and I’m glad that I could communicate with you over this topic on my personal views…..

No no you haven’t. I welcome your viewpoint and in fact, I totally agree with it because I’ve faced a situation like that too. This poem has though been written from the perspective 9f those unfortunate parents who’s children don’t even turn back and wonder about their parents. It’s not for everyone of our generation. And a difference of opinion is more than welcome because it helps us grow as people. So dont fret my friend. All’s well 😊😊

the bitter concoction of life and the pain experienced as one tries to gulp down the final years, brought out very beautifully by you, Pradita
