Greetings Everyone!
Haven’t heard from you guys in a while… one weekend to be precise.
I Missed You All!
So how was your weekend? Did you enjoy it? Did you do something special? Did you meet someone? Or did you spend it like me, away from your phone? Tell me ALL! I’d love to hear from you guys π
This time, for the Fone Free Day, I challenged myself to a whole weekend of being without my phone, rather than just spending one day without it.
Did I make it? Hmmmm…. you could say so. But I’ll tell you, it was HARD, especially because I had to somehow get that article on Candles Online published without giving in to the temptation of checking my other accounts or WP comments. I succeeded in that but then there was a botched up delivery from a courier service that had me calling up several people and checking my inbox for reasons connected to it. But apart from those two glitches, I managed to stay away throughout the rest of the weekend. So, yay!
So what did I do this weekend? I had two craft projects that I had been working on for some weeks that needed completion, and try as I might, I was just unable to find the time for working on them. So this weekend, I knew I had to finish them off before they got postponed to the next weekend. I’m glad that I did because I loved the outcome on both, especially since one became my daughter’s immediate favorite.Β ππ
I crocheted this little Amigurumi bobble sheep for my daughter…

Amigurumi Bobble Sheep
And then I finished off this wall hanging/dreamcatcher/whatever-you-wanna-call-it.

Crocheted Dream Catcher with Sea Motifs
I know, it’s a little lopsided, but I’m no professional. So I wasn’t about to unravel it again and correct the mistakes. Call me lethargic, but I don’t care π π
I finished off the dreamcatcher, only to find out that my daughter had managed to scribble on EVERY surface of my living room… with a BLACK crayon no less. So after much fretting and crying over it, and uselessly mulling over the inevitable, I sat down to scrub down all the surfaces where she had so magnanimously displayed her creativity. The couch, the settee seat, the side-table panels, the glass-top over the coffee table! My kid loves to paint, y’know!
Β
Aaaaarghhhh! I don’t understand why kids don’t get, ‘No scribbling on anything else except paper’. I have given her every sort of paper, craft supplies, colors and sheets, but she’ll only want to scribble on the walls, the tiled flooring or my treadmill’s belt. Go figure!
Kids, right?!
So coming back to the Fone Free Day, was it easier this time? Like I said before, since it was an entire weekend, and because I had those two ‘events’, being just a click away from checking my other accounts and comments was TEMPTING. But making up my mind to stick to my resolve before I set out on each task, helped immensely in keeping my wayward thoughts in check.
In terms of whether the weekend was productive, the above two project pictures are testimony to the fact that spending less time with phones and on social media only helps our productivity, at least for me. And even if you don’t decide to do anything on that day, you could always just relax and unwind, like I did. I have been functioning on less than 5 hours of sleep every night this past week because of work and my daughter’s erratic sleep pattern. So Sunday, I took a good hour and half long nap. Β It would never have been possible with my phone around or being glued to a screen. Screens have a weird way of just robbing you of sleep, don’t you think so?
The downside was my parents got worried over why I was suddenly MIA on my usual social media accounts. So this morning I got an earful from my Mom for being unreachable, but aside from that, I really don’t see any downside to keeping your phone away for a day or two, unless you have emergencies.
So folks, I am living testimony of the fact that you can turn this into a habit, without any side effects (irate parents/spouse aside).
Next month, that is June onwards, I will try to do this on a weekly basis instead. I’ll let you guys know for sure when I will go offline π
Thank you, as always, for your unfailing support and cheering me on through the past weekend. I was really happy to know that the initiative is being taken up by people other than just me and Deepika.
That’s it from me then. Hope you’re having a great day and I hope your week goes well too.
Adios!Β π

A rather brave effort I must say. Now I am also tempted to try the same…
And as for the children painting on walls.. I also remember loving it.. after my birth… My parents got our house walls painted only when I reached 5th standard.. guilty as charged π

Thanks a lot Prajakta. Yed I guess I’ll have to do the same when she’s grown up enough to understand things π

Yes I have. For me these days are chances now to distance myself from a lot of useless social media noise. i hate it when it gets crowded in my head.
BTW, how have you been?

I’m good. Enjoying my time with my books!π And yes I must admit, the head feels so light when kept away from the virtual world. Also, all of a sudden there is so much time to do useful work.

Good to know you managed to stay up to the mark for phone free weekend! I generally don’t use much of blogging related apps on Sundays since I’m super busy!

Thanks π Yes I managed it and I’m so happy about it. This time it came as a real breather because ever since the FB page went live I was being swamped by chat requests. It got to the point where I was getting pinged by a new person by the hour. So I needed this!
Glad to know you celebrate your own version of Fone Free Day. Keep it up π

Being pinged for chat due to FB page? That’s perplexing!!
I don’t have to make much effort! It’s automatic π

Perhaps it’s a form of feeling liberated running a pen or paintbrush across the wall as she walks her tiny footsteps across the floor, dragging that along with her..though I’m sorry to hear you had to scrub away at it..I can only imagine the frustration.
I have to say..you are such a talented and creative mother..it’s no wonder your daughter has picked up on it too. That booble sheep and dreamcatcher is very quaint and admirable. I’m sure she will come to appreciate more so in the future. It’s very impressive and pretty.

Congrats on making it! Proud of you. Great job. I love the Amigurumi bobble sheep π ππππ it’s so cute and adorable! Same goes for the dreamcatcher. Great creative skills you’ve got there! β€ When I was a kid, I had an aversion to paper too. I had to draw on the walls! ππ

Thank you so much for the encouragement Shweta. I think all of us as kids have done some sort of artistigiri on the walls or some other surface. It was like an initiation…. You couldn’t be a child artist without having done that π€£

I love reading your works. Do keep writing. So glad I was able to catch up on all that I’d missed out. πππ Oh yes, true that. We can’t be a child artist without any of that. πππ
