Build a Story Competition and Thinking Cap Award Announcement

It’s here!

The story you all had so lovingly contributed to,

has finally been

 Published!!

I’ve had so much fun compiling the sentences and turning them into a story! I must say, you guys have a great imagination. The sentences you all contributed had all the elements of making a thrilling sci-fi, fantasy story. So, kudos to you all!

Even though we didn’t make the 2000 words mark, and no one voted for each other’s sentences (mildly grumbling), with the exception of good ol’ Shweta who voted for everyone, it’s still a very entertaining story that will leave you guessing until the very end. I even gave it a title! 😀

I had to rearrange some of the sentences so that they fit into the story and the whole thing made sense. But as you’ll notice, there isn’t much change in the way the sentences appear in the comments section of this post.

Coming to the most important part of the post, the Thinking Cap Award, since no one voted for anyone’s sentences ( 😛 ), I had to choose the best line on my own. The name of the winner is at the very end of this post. For now, enjoy the story, that is your baby 🙂  😀

The Dreamer

It was midnight, but the boy wasn’t in bed…

The creaking sound from an old rusty swing set in the lawn could be heard. He was standing outside gazing at the starlit sky and thinking, “Is this it?” And high above his head, he saw it. A haunting sketch of a part of him, that was once his own; a cruel act by the taunting clouds.

He turned back inside and began the process of cleaning up the remnants of his masters nightly party. As he was cleaning up the remnants, he saw something glittering – it was a diamond! But, he threw it away for diamonds were passé; he was looking for the time traveller that he had flicked from Rekha!

He suddenly heard footsteps approaching him, so he rushed back to bed to lay still as though deep in sleep. He lay still in his bed till he heard the footsteps trace back to the hall and he didn’t dare to switch on the flashlight again.

He saw a shadowy image of a little boy slowly move in his direction as he shouted with his mouth closed, ‘Mom, please be with me’.

Thud! A loud bang that splintered the opulent light bulb bursting into smoke and on the spur of the moment, came a violent knock on the door at nightfall!

He woke up, drenched in sweat and realised that he’d dreamed about the time when he had been taken away from his mother. His physical body still existed, but his soul was in another world – “Dreamland”.

And that was the story of his first movie he was trying hard for many years to do!

The Thinking Cap Award goes to

DAHLIA

For her line – he threw it away for diamonds were passé; he was looking for the time traveller that he had flicked from Rekha!

I’m being honest with you guys, all the lines were well crafted and brought in a different dimension to the story. Some had pathos, some a horror angle and some were very sensational. I liked Dahlia’s for the time-travel bit, that brought in a sci-fi angle into this psycho-thriller story.

Once again, thank you so, so much to EVERYONE for contributing and being such a great sport.

I loved playing this! Didnt’ you?!

Lemme know if you’d like something like this again in the future. Multi-collaborative stories just could be the next ‘thang’, y’all!

Love and hugs to everyone.

Enjoy your weekend folks!
