Daily Prompt: Dormant
Dormant dreams seemed to come alive,
As soon as her brush touched the paper.
The Autistic girl who never spoke, provoked or evoked,
Now seemed to babble through a vivid language of colors,
An age of grey silence thus came to an end,
A poet was born who painted her sagas.
This piece was inspired by the story of this autistic 6 year old girl, Iris Grace, who’s exceptional artwork has generated so much interest that even the likes of Angelina Jolie have bought her artwork.
The featured image in this post is also her work of art, titled, Music at Sunrise. You can read more about this exceptional child, her struggle with autism, her pet cat cum artist assistant, Thula, and their journey through art here.
Her story and her gift remind us that there can be light in the dark, that we can be strong inspite of our weaknesses and above all, that there is always hope.
More power to you, little girl! May you go from strength to strength!

Nice to know that. I’m just going through your recent posts right now. For a while it seemed you weren’t writing. So it’s good to hear from you again. I read in your blog post that work’s been keeping you busy. Hope it’s all sorted now 🙂
My little girl is doing great. As naughty as ever 😀

That’s lovely. Things will, unfortunately, remain busy. I must find time to write soon.

Pradita! You have given a fitting tribute and hope through the canvas of words. What a powerful expression depicting the colors felt within and painted through expression. Hope we change our attitudes towards children suffering from autism.

I heard about her, read actually, in the news. Wonderful, innit, the way art can come from the most unlikeliest of places?

I know. Funny how nature works sometimes. Snatching from one hand, and giving from the other. Hope she overcomes autism entirely.

I don’t think that would be possible, at least not completely. But she might turn out to be an autistic savant or something. May God bless her. 😊

Yeah you’re right. I also read about an Autistic artist who paints entire cities from memory. And he’s overcome his autism now. Talent, you never know where you’ll find it or in whom.
