Good Morning Folks!
Another attempt at sketching. This time I tried my hand at something new. I don’t usually sketch abstract faces. I was almost sure this was going to be a disaster. I’m happy the way it turned out, even if the lines are not symmetrical. Hee hee!

Really beautiful! I haven’t tried charcoal pencils yet. I bought water and acrylic colors last evening which are again a new medium for me. Can’t wait to use them!

Oh! Colors colors! They always thrill me too, even if I’m useless at them. Do let us know how it turned out. I know you like sketching. You should try charcoals, pencils or sticks. They add depth to your sketches that normal pencils can’t. Happy sketching 😀

These days I am stuck on Sakura micron pens. I have been wanting to use charcoal sticks but I fear that I will end up smudging everything. But then I will learn only when I practice. Do you use fixative too on the sketch once it’s done?

Not yet, I don’t. I haven’t created anything yet that I love so much as not to let it smudge! Ha ha… One question Ma’am, do those micron pens bleed when you use them on say, watercolors? Coz the ones I have (not Sakura) bleed into the colors even if the colors are dry and it just ruins the painting.

Thanks Akhila. Charcoal pencils are a lot darker than normal writing graphite pencils. The charcoal content in them is also looser than, so that it becomes easy for artists to shade the sketches. They bring a lot of depth to the sketch because the pigment in them is stronger. Think of them as charcoal pieces shaped into pencils. Have you ever drew something with a piece of wood charcoal? Notice how the black is strong and vivid? That’s why it’s sometimes better to sketch with.

Oh..no dear… not at all bored…I wanted to know about it, otherwise I wouldn’t have asked you….please note I am not a painter😉, but I love gathering information…(in fact I would have added a little more instead of saying thanks alone initially to show my courtesy, was in a hurry then and so …)
