Hey Dear Readers!
It’s the last Sunday of the month tomorrow. You know what that means?
Fone Free Day!
It gives me immense pleasure to tell you all that the Fone Free Day initiative started by me and Deepika from Deepikas Ramblings, has entered it’s 5th month now! Actually it’s the 4th for me and the 5th for her. Last month we were also joined by Jotish Joseph in the initiative. Read about his Fone Free experience here.
Last month, I had to be socially available at all times around the last Sunday of July. Consequently, the no phone thing was impossible to observe. But this time I decided even if I have to physically keep my phone locked away in the cupboard, I will do it! Grrrr!
So here I am, looking forward to a day sans technology (as much as I can help it. I still have to be ‘socially available’ this weekend too).
Should you want to join this initiative, remember to abide by these simple rules –
⇒ To be observed on the Last Sunday of every month.
⇒ No phones, no social media (not even on tabs, desktops, or any other device).
⇒ Phone allowed only for – some calls (keep them short, to the point, important ones only). No texting, emailing, whatsapping or snapchatting, or whatever. Work related emails or messages are allowed, but try to minimize usage.
⇒ Try to get other’s involved ( through word of mouth, or do it a day before).
⇒ Put the above logo on your blog the day after the Fone Free Day and faithfully record how your day was spent.
⇒ Next month, before the Last Sunday, create a post with this same logo and tell other people to get involved.
⇒ Promote Fone Free Day on social media sites on other days only, and use the hashtag #fonefreeday for the promotion.
You do not have to link my or Deepika’s name to your blog posts about this initiative. We are not asking for credit. We are only asking for observance – honest observance.
IT’S JUST ONE DAY!
Remember, ONE day of no phones. I promise you’ll suddenly find so much free time you’ll wonder why you’ve been wasting time on that phone anyway.
So I’m not going to be available on any social media site, including WP after midnight tonight. If you have an emergency, please shoot me an email at praditakapahi@gmail.com. I may answer depending on your emergency 😛 Sorry!
Also, please remember to enter your lines for the <Your Line Goes Here> Contest and vote for your favorite lines. To enter the contest please click on this link. The contest ends tonight at 11.59 P.M. The winner will be declared on the coming Monday.

My condolences. But I think in a way it would do humanity a lot of good if we could go back to the stone age of the earliest mobile phones when all it was meant to do was take calls and send texts.

I am glad I stumbled upon your post, I started the similar kind of initiative wherein not to use the “Internet” every Wednesday. Will surely be promoting my initiative too soon after getting inspired from yours.

You’re welcome Pradita. I am doing 80% of the challenge on Saturdays and Sundays to spend time with my kids and family. It’s like a modified version of the challenge. However, yeah, I would try to go 100 % free sometime 🙂

That’s good to hear. That’s an achievement all by itself since you must have so much going on in life. Even 80% is a 100% at such times. 😊

I do it once a month, honestly I do! I just don’t log in on facebook, twitter or anything else. but there comes a problem, my work puts me in a dilemma. We are constantly connected and most of the things happen online, so it gets difficult but the day I shun online world I try and reduce my usage of phone and laptop!
But I guess it isn’t as good as you guys are doing! 🙂

No Moushmi, the fact that you are making a conscious effort is itself commendable. And I know that work drags us onto the internet frequently. That’s why the rules say work emails are acceptable. There are times when even I’ve had to go online for emails, or have been on the comp to work. But then I ensure that I’m logged out of all SM sites, so that I don’t get any distracting notifications. And you don’t even have to post about this on any site or blog. The fact that you do it diligently is proof of your conviction. Keep it up dear. 😊😊

Thank you so much. And I try increasing the time too. I mean sometimes I am out of all those sites for so long, my friends wonder, if I am even alive or not 😀
But it really feels so wonderful, to be just out of it.
