Hey, Fellow Bloggers and Darling Readers!
It’s the last Sunday of the month tomorrow, and that means it’s time for another –
Fone Free Day!
This small initiative undertaken by Deepika from Deepikas Ramblings, and me has entered its 7th Month now, and though I didn’t observe it the last month, owing to Dusshera celebrations at my place that day, Deepika had steadfastly observed the day and even recorded her day on her blog (read about it here). Well done, Deepika!
This Fone Free Day, I have LOTS planned. There are some creative projects lined up, then clearing up the clutter in my cupboard and oh, baking too! I’m so looking forward to the creative projects because its the first time I’ll be trying my hand on Pepercutting. Let’s see how it goes 😀 😀
Should you want to join this initiative, remember to abide by these simple rules –
⇒ To be observed on the Last Sunday of every month.
⇒ No phones, no social media (not even on tabs, desktops, or any other device).
⇒ Phone allowed only for – some calls (keep them short, to the point, important ones only). No texting, emailing, whatsapping or snapchatting, or whatever. Work related emails or messages are allowed, but try to minimize usage.
⇒ Try to get other’s involved ( through word of mouth, or do it a day before).
⇒ Put the above logo on your blog the day after the Fone Free Day and faithfully record how your day was spent.
⇒ Next month, before the Last Sunday, create a post with this same logo and tell other people to get involved.
⇒ Promote Fone Free Day on social media sites on other days only, and use the hashtag #fonefreeday for the promotion.
You do not have to link my or Deepika’s name to your blog posts about this initiative. We are not asking for credit. We are only asking for observance – honest observance.
Remember that it’s only one day of abstinence. Think of all the things that you can do when you’re not peering into a screen!
JUST ONE DAY!
You can do that! It’s as easy as eating cake!
As always, I’ll stop responding to comments, messages, emails and chats after midnight tonight. In an emergency, please email at praditakapahi@gmail.com, though I can’t guarantee I’ll answer right away.
P.S. I know I was supposed to post the second part of The Three Littel Pigs – A Dystopian Version, but because of some health issues, I have been unable to write much today. Monday is the day, I promise!!! 😀

Can you imagine, not so long ago each day was a virtual-free day. Even no navigation systems in cars, but usually destination was found otherwise and this worked fine. And I still write postcards from journeys cause it is more personal and also very real. It just takes a little bit more time to reach, quite more relaxed indeed. Hopefully this kind of communication can survive but I am not sure about it.

Thank you for coming here and reminiscing me of those beloved postcards. Those little rectangles of paper with beautiful pictures on them are fast approaching extinction. It saddens me to see that people don’t want to put in that kind of effort anymore into maintain a personal touch. It doesn’t take much to send a greeting card, a handwritten letter or making a phone call. But we are so used to being connected our virtual faces that we’ve forgotten how to be physically attached to someone. This initiative was an effort to stay away from phones and reconnect to the living, breathing people we know. Your postcard writing is commendable. I really really hope they survive and don’t go extinct like the Indian Inland letters did.

I don’t want to give up phone. The reason is : I don’t use the phone unless it is absolutely essential. On any particular day, Sunday or week days, I receive hardly three calls. I make less than five calls any day.

That’s good Sir. But this initiative isnt about calling from the phone or receiving calls. It’s about all the OTHER things we do on our smartphones these days – whatsapping, facebooking, clicking selfies, playing games – things that are unnecessarily cluttering our minds and removing us from the reality of the world around us. If you don’t do that, then you have nothing to worry about 🙂

Sure, I don’t. Not because I don’t want to, but because I have not learnt these new tricks. They are beyond my comprehension. The only new trick I learnt with great difficulty and repeated errors was booking a call taxi.

You are endearingly honest Sir. Please stay that way and don’t ever regret not doing things on the phone. It’s overrated anyway. Have a great day 🙂

I love this idea. Then again, it’s a good thing that I’m not really a phone (Fone) kind of gal. The only person I talk to is my elderly mother every day. That is a must. The rest can be put on hold. I would love to get caught up on the things I need to around the house. Thank you.

Its a good thing you’re not addicted to your phone. But this day ins’t about strict observance anyway. It’s about how you can just ensure that we do not become addicted to any sort of technology, be it the phone, the computers, tv or the fridge (that’s another addiction I have to fight 😀 😀 )…. Keep leading a phone-less life. Trust me you’re not missing out on anything 😉

That’s ok Shubhankar, but if at any given time and day, you find that the phone is cluttering your life too much, you ought to give this a try. It helps you bring a sense of peace and calm. Thanks for supporting me as always 🙂

yes, sure I will do, when I stay at home that time I had to leave phone so I think I do practice once-twice a month that time I follow partially fone free day .
Thanks for motivating me as always.

Good going Shubhankar. That’s the point – trying to do it whenever you can. I too don’t observe Fone Free Day strictly on last Sunday. Whenever possible and whenever I just don’t feel being connected, I switch off the phone.

hehe good di, You are highly motivated and strict, But I think you should not switch your Phone kuki kbhi kbhi kuch log emergency m call bhi kr skte hai aise sara din phone off krna achhi baat nhi

Haan. Not for an entire day I don’t. A few hours is more like it. 🙂

Nice thought. Fone free day should bring back those golden days cell phone was still a dream. When we kept in touch and it was more fun.

I really hope so, but having tasted technology like that once, I think we humans won’t go back to the those good old days, unless we absolutely destroyed all evidence of it from the earth, as well as it’s memory. Maybe we will recognise later the need of distancing ourselves from the virtual.
Thanks for coming here. How have you been Vasu?
