How can you ask me to be ‘just me’?
I’m the biggest contradiction
Of my own beliefs.
I’m a sailor, I’m a pirate,
I’m a cop and a thief.
I’m that notorious statesman
Making policies that no one needs.
As well as that bloke shivering in the cold
Waiting to make a dollar,
To find something to eat.
I’m a mother and a father,
A nanny and a neighbour.
I’m a dragon, I’m a knight,
The Anti-Christ and the Saviour.
I’ll espouse democracy, independence;
Yet support slavery for the landed gentry.
I’ll play the clown and the pawn in a king’s court,
Or the harlot, or the prince
Or the prince’s sentry.
I’m at once my own person
And millions on the earth.
I can’t confine myself to one role,
I kill one, and another takes birth.
I’m not a slave of skin and sinew,
Or of time, race, class, country or gender.
I’m the one who wears many faces,
The one with many names.
I’m a writer.
“A writer is a world trapped in a person.”
― Victor Hugo
Dear Readers,
I know I’ve kept promises that I’ve broken. I know I’ve barely been there for the past 3 weeks. And what’s worse is that it will stay that way for about 2 more weeks. I have had to battle sickness, conflicting schedules, disruptive cosmic forces and black-holish other errands that have ate up all of my writing time. They’re still at it, the time-sucking leeches.
So I ask of you to be patient with me, please. This week I don’t think I’ll be able to post more than twice – one is my scheduled post on Candles Online on Thursday, and the other is another scheduled post on The Perfectly Imperfect Bunch Blog, on Saturday. But I’ll try, I really will try to sneak in one odd post in between. I really can’t guarantee about the next week; I’ll be neck deep in work by then.
So hang in there. I’ll return to you all, because I do love being in this parallel universe where we connect sans hindrances of space, gender, convention, inhibition and ideologies.
Should you want to read something, The Perfectly Imperfect Bunch Blog is doing a Halloween Special this whole week, so each day you will get a new ghost story! Please check them out to get your daily feed of spooks and goosebumps.
Happy Halloween!

That was amazing poem, dear Pradita. Yes, I always felt like that. I’m everything, more than what i’m as a writer. I also felt your this poem is a wonderful tribute to the writer in each one of us. I loved this one.

Thanks a lot. The fact that you connect with it shows that you are a true writer because being writers forces us to weight (and be) the beliefs and ideas of each side of the argument. The only other profession where I’ve seen this happen is the legal profession, where I come from. With so many contradicting beliefs, how can we be just one person? 😉 😀

Nice one Pradita.. A writer wears too many hats and seeks to unmask the thoughts of many a person.
