Gingerly is the Daily Word Prompt today. Gingerly…. I don’t get why gingerly means what gingerly means. This is what Cambridge Dictionary says it means –
Gingerly – in a way that is careful or cautious
But why?
Ginger is ginger, as in this

Okay, also this

Not the girl, people, the color of her hair. Okay, some girls are also named Ginger, but I don’t know if she is Ginger, I mean if her name is Ginger.
The point is, when ginger is ginger, and ginger-y is something that tastes or resembles ginger, like this
Then why is gingerly what Cambridge Dictionary says it is?
:0 🙂 True, indeed.

I think you must eat ginger slowly and carefully, or you’ll burn your tongue.

I believe gingerly is what it is because it is not related to ginger. I mean, etymologically, two are different.

Yes, that would be the natural conclusion. As Ifound out, gingerly comes from the French root word ‘gensor’, but still, isn’t it confusing in the presnt day world how ginger and gingerly sound similar? Haha!

I can understand the confusion. Actually, there is a whole lot out there. I still sometimes use ‘ingenious’ and ‘ingenuous’ interchangeably 🙂

For the photos displayed, i cud interpret
1. They have strong taste and thus need to be carefully consumed.
2. A lady hmmm, no comments.
3. The tea maybe hot, so with caution

I add ginger to lots of things here in Portugal but since time is always a problem for me, I buy ginger paste and garlic paste, ready made, which saves me a lot of time. I actually hate cooking but at the moment I have to cook for myself. So I always take shortcuts.
