Sometimes relationships become all about give and take. Or just give and give. Or just take and take. Scriptures tell us that we must not desire, we must not expect. But is that achievable when you do something for someone?
Do you wish sometimes that what you did was not reciprocated in materialistic things, but in kindness and acceptance instead? And is desiring that, also a form of expectation that should be avoided?
Do you crave to hear ‘you’re enough for me’ or would you rather take that gift?

Hoping your day is going well.
Deep thought. Thanks for sharing.

Well there is so much to write on this. But let me just say, we humans have a transactional mindset.

You’re right. But then maybe those who do keep giving should also withdraw. But then this behaviour leads to nowhere but a break in the relationship. Wish people would just understand.

I get your point. We humans are quite complicated. Expectations, motives….it all plays on subconscious level. On a simpler note, life will be easier as you mentioned.

Sometimes it’s the small things that matter and those are the ones that are left unsaid.

Yes. Simple thank yous and sorries can achieve much that expensive gifts can’t sometimes. They mean that you are open about your feelings and your gratitude. I don’t get what’s so hard about that, that ppl don’t do it more often.

Indeed. People tend to do that.

Expectations and desire are in-built in the human psyche, I guess. And as the poem says, we desire to matter to someone, maybe because we hope that’d add meaning to our lives, fulfill it.
Lovely poem.

You’re right. It all spirals out if control when that doesn’t happen. Thanks for reading 😊 😊

Let me see if I can say this the way I’m thinking it…. lol!
Love comes from the heart. Are his gifts s manifestation of his heart or is he merely buying you with gifts!
